September 2023 Newsletter
Announcements
Welcome to back to our not-even-trying-to-be-monthly Regular Newsletter, with goings on in EA Bristol and the wider EA scene.
To start with, some promotion, that one of our regular members, Jess, has started writing semi-regular blog posts – you can find her latest one here and subscribe to updates on the same page. Her most recent is about Jess’s experiences with being receptive to emotions and how it highlights the importance of communication in relationships – see, EA isn’t just about AI!
If you have produced something you’d like in the next newsletter, please get in touch.
Our monthly pub meet continues to be well attended, see photos below
In a change of plan, we will be going to Bessell Scott’s House of Jazz, the new jazz bar on East Street for our NOVEMBER pub social if you would like to join
It’s Tuesday 7th November 20:00
And the event is here.
A few pictures from our recent socials below, including a pub social, and a walk in Leigh Woods
In other community news…..
EA UK are looking for people who may want to get more involved, you can see a list of potential volunteering and project ideas here. If you’re interested in any of those or you have your own ideas then sign up here.
Additionally, we’re always looking for more material for the newsletter. So if you’ve produced something you’re happy with, even if it isn’t strictly EA aligned then email us and we can include it for next month.
Upcoming events
Bristol
We have been running a lot more events recently.
It’s been a while since we’ve gone through them, and there’s some exciting changes afoot on Tuesdays. So here’s a complete list of events coming up regularly, but also subscribe to our Meetup.com and Facebook events – consider throwing a review on meetup.com events as that’s something that meetup.com now offers.
- First Tuesday of the month at 20:00 is our Pub Social
Check our FB/meetup/website for the locations of the pub as it changes every month
You can find the locations on the FB or Meetup.com - 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at 19:00
Reverse Book Club (either at the Watershed, or Queen’s Square if the weather is good)
Bring a book you’ve been trying to read, and using peer pressure we will get you to read it, and then you can discuss it after - 3rd Tuesdays at 19:00 EA Forum Book Club
If you haven’t come across the EA forum it’s a great resource for lighter and in-depth contributions from the EA scene. If there’s something that interests you you can filter it with the Topics option.
This event is a chance to bring something you’ve found on the EA Forum, or read things that other people bring and discuss it. - 5th Tuesday – this happens once every few months and we will do something special that we will announce closer to the day. Next one is in November
Right, that’s enough about Tuesdays; - Every Saturday 9:00
Park Run (Either Eastville Park or Ashton Court)
Start the weekend right with a 5k run - Every Saturday 10:45

Bring some work you’ve been trying to get through and use peer pressure to crush it. And we go for food after normally. - Saturday 16th September 10:00 – Chat & Plan at Sciety Café (the one closest to Arnolfini). If you’ve got an idea about something you’d like EA Bristol to do, or you’re dying to be given a task to complete, then come along. You get a free coffee too (you’ve got to specifically ask for this though)
As our one off socials we’ve got:
- Saturday 29th September 19:30 – Monthly social – Food + Poker
Live the high-roller life, playing texas hold-em with real money and getting drunk on whisky (whisky not provided) at our hosts houses, where he will be providing food for guests - Saturday 21st October 14:00 – Urban games + free food + evening plans
